Description

Lynx Exhibits is proud to present El Paso Exploreum, the city’s first “living laboratory” museum for children, opening Feb. 9, 2013.

Designed as a flexible exhibit to give El Pasoans an active voice in the development of a permanent children’s museum, the new facility offers a wide variety of interactive exhibits for all ages. The facility also will serve as the only science-based venue for school field trips as of Jan. 1, 2013.

Temporarily located at Lynx Exhibits before moving into its permanent home at 320 W. San Antonio Ave., the museum for children includes a traditional traveling exhibit normally housed inside Lynx Exhibits as well as multiple interactive exhibits in four theme areas: construction, aviation, role-play and high tech.

“We are thrilled that El Pasoans have voted to build a permanent children’s museum in the city. While the city works to build a state-of-the art facility, Lynx Exhibits is committed to helping El Pasoans shape their own future by generating ideas for new and exciting exhibits to entertain children of all ages,” said co-founder Laurie Paternoster.

Continuing its mission of bringing high quality national exhibits to El Paso, Lynx Exhibits is sponsoring “Tech City,” a traveling exhibit from the Sciencenter in Ithaca, New York. In Tech City, visitors solve real-world engineering problems by designing, building, testing and modifying structures. Visitors will shake buildings and bridges, dam a creek, control traffic flow and catch the wind, all while learning how engineering and design influences everyday life.

El Paso Exploreum offers a strong representation of STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and math – as well as architecture. The High Tech Hot spot showcases the future with a multiplayer touch screen table and an interactive floor. Visitors can stand their hair on end and manipulate lightning in a globe in other exhibits, while exploring magnetism displays and electrostatic demonstrations.

In Airport Adventure, the museum partners with local aviation experts to provide children and adults alike a whimsical look at a kid-sized airport. Featuring a control tower and climb-on plane and helicopter, there’s lots to do in this area. Additional features include a dress-up area for role play and a place to make your own helicopters.

The Old El Paso Village gives visitors a chance to experience the traditional grocery store found in most children’s museums in a new way. Stop at the general mercantile to load up on textiles and groceries from the 1800s, and then walk over to the livery where children can get the feel of a saddle. The old schoolhouse offers role-play opportunities with a full-length chalkboard, and other structures add to the fun.

Throughout the facility, visitors have the opportunity to vote on the standing exhibits, offer suggestions and dream about future attractions.

The El Paso Exploreum will be open Tuesdays through Sundays. Free parking available. For more information, call 533-4330 or visit the Lynx Exhibits website at www.LynxExhibits.com
